After a great deal of fun last year the Executive Holidays team challenge you to join them to participate in the Auckland 2010 Cathay Pacific Half Marathon or 11km run/walk.  A number of our team will be trying to shed post Christmas kilos so we'd like to offer you the opportunity to join an "Executive Holidays Team" in completing one of these events on 28 February 2010.  Last year we didn’t have much lead in time, but this year you have 12 more weeks to train so there are no excuses.

Summer at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland Airport

Places Cafe at Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland Airport is pleased to extend their new Summer menu. The Executive Chef has been busy creating a fantastic new menu which has an emphasis on fresh New Zealand seafood, while still offering some of their long term favourites, such as Butter Chicken or Slow Cooked Lamb Shank. Turn to black for kiwi passport

New Zealand has a new ePassport, but don't be expecting any special treatment, such as getting through customs faster, if you're issued with one in the coming months.  Despite its nifty new look-complete with black cover and a silver fern, a perhaps more flattering balck and white photo (though the electronic chip image is full colour) and different artwork on each page - the ePassport won't give you any advantages over the existing ePassport.  "There's no difference to how you use it, "says a Department of Internal Affairs spokesperson.  "Travellers won't notice any change in that."  Like the previous ePassport, introduced in Nov 2005, the new version will work with Smartgate, the automated passenger clearance system being officially launched at Auckland International Airport early next month.  As well as looking pretty, the new ePassport includes a raft of new security features - including a secondary photo window and increased use of intaglio print and embossing - which Minister of Internal Affairs Nathan Guy says will help future-proof the passport against fraudsters and maintain visa-free entry for New Zealanders to more than 50 countries.  Both the new and old ePassports will be issued over the coming months as Internal Affairs uses up existing stock and ensures all systems associated with the new version are running smoothly.  The price of the passport remains the same.

Pay for more leg room on Cathay

From 1 December passengers travelling in economy on Cathay Pacific will be able to pay USD100 per sector to be guaranteed an economy class exit row seat.  The seats, which have previously been reserved for the exclusive use of Cathay's Marco Polo Club frequent flyers, will still be available to the Marco Polo members free of charge - however Cathay says they will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
